From July 2018 on, Google will favor fast websites also in mobile search lists. This means that currently well ranking but slow performing websites may rank lower in the future.
"Just google something quickly" – soon this will also carry a significant meaning when searching on mobile devices. Then speed will be called for because Google will punish low-performing websites. Users will be pleased, but website operators who didn't focus on the optimization of their mobile websites so far need to act quickly. According to Google this new rule will affect all sites – no matter which technology has been used to build it.
But how to optimize page speed?
The formula "content is king" will remain true also for mobile search. A website will still rank better if it offers high-quality content. But this alone won't do the trick if you don't want to be left in the dust.
Optimization is the better way. This starts already with choosing the right server solution. High performance and maximum security are essential here and play a significant role when it comes to short loading times.
The speed of a website can also be positively influenced by various technical adjustments at the site itself such as image compression, using a proper source code or refrain from using social plug-ins.
Of course, also the use of valid SSL certificates is a must for all site owners. Google evaluates insufficiently protected pages negatively and will punish such pages in its search rankings – in the future also in mobile searches.
Tip: Every domain managed with Schlund Technologies can be encrypted with a Basic SSL certificate for free.
